Once you've made your Loretta doll the sky is the limit as to how you'll choose to dress her. Why not make her a full wardrobe?

SKILL LEVEL REQUIRED:

You need to know how to sew on a sewing machine at a basic level.
Dollmaking is a skill that continues for life so to start you just need to be able to sew around your doll template and make mini clothes. If you already make clothes this would be an advantage because all we do for dollmaking is make them very small which is a skill we'll learn.

WHAT TO BRING:
  • Glasses if you use them
  • You will get a doll kit with a pre-painted face so you'll have everything you need to make your first doll, however if you have some lovely textils or habedashery - bring! The joy of dollmaking is that pretty much anything can be part of a doll.
  • Fabric, old clothes you'd like to upcycle
  • Ribbons and trims
  • Old broken jewelry - great for hair pieces and embellishments

Welcome to the best hobby ever! If you like sewing, craft and textile you'll LOVE doll making as this brings it all together and even much much more!

I just LOVE LOVE LOVE making dolls and for me this is a hobby that never ends with creativity, joy and delight. Read more about why I make dolls and what got me started here.

This is my own template doll I've created especially for this course because its simple and perfect for your first cloth doll. She's called Loretta Doll.

Don't worry if you're racing ahead or finding it too fast, I can offer one to one attention whatever your crafting needs, skills and abilities are.

Once you make your first basic rag doll you can start to make more challenging cloth dolls - the sky is the limit with doll making!

YOUR OPTIONS:

You can either come to a dollmaking workshop where I teach you and show you step-by step - or buy a rag doll kit with everything you need to make her yourself! She comes with bespoke pre-painted faces by myself so that you are guaranteed a beautiful looking doll every time!

What to bring

  • If you have a sewing machine, bring her along! I can help you with it if you haven't used it in a long time
  • Bring a basic sewing kit with fabric scissors
  • Bring soft light weight calico and pre-dye it if you want a darker doll with tea bags! Pre-washed calico is ideal.
  • Bring gorgeous fabric and wool for hair and clothes
  • If you don't have any of these things worry not! I do and you can buy a doll making kit at class
  • Contact me if you have any questions at all and I'll be happy to chat to you
