Maria's Doll School
It was Saturday is Dolly day last week and I made this lovely doll who as they often do ended up looking rather a lot like me!
Her face is based on a Russian doll and I found that in a rag doll context it really worked.
Love her triple-tone hair! Very fashion-forward.
Her dress is made from a ripped old cushion cover that had it's day. She's got remnants of Vivian Westwood's original punk styling here with the safety pins creating the detail of her dress.
The folded dress was based on my varyingly challenging experiences attempting to put on a sari and doing all the many pleats! I think there are about 10 in all!
So I was in Spain last week and met up with a cousin I hadn't seen for decades! He had a lovely little daughter and so we all met for dinner. When I showed her the doll, well you can guess what happened.
Needless to say, Ilia the doll has now moved to Spain!
Inspired by my most beloved Ballet Sindy doll when I was little I've of course made her ballet shoes!
